After blogging about a niche market in the iPhone SEO space, I decided that educating my readers was more important than I ever realised. Based on the number of comments I received, I decided to review things and try and write more posts about little tips and tricks I know allowing people to work from home.
Let’s get right to it. If you’re here, you clearly know about Adsense and are most probably monetizing a site or two. Now, the conventional way to do this is to place ad blocks on your website, optimize your content and then wait for clicks to happen. There’s nothing wrong with this method, and I think it’s great to do this, but there’s a little trick, which has increased my Adsense by roughly $100 a month.
The Trick:
Like on iMod, you’ll see that the home page contains no Adsense, this is so that users arriving by direct entries, blogrolls and word of mouth, arrive at a site where there is no advertising. This often encourages users to stick around. On actual single pages (ie. clicking into an article), there is an advert block on the right hand side of the website, neatly placed and unobtrusive. Once again, this is so that it doesn’t directly impact on the users journey whilst reading the article they arrived on most probably from the Home Page or a search engine or a back link.
Now, the secret is to get a plugin which lists your top posts or simply use analytics to find out which posts are most often visited on your website. Once you have a list of the top posts on your website, open them up and click through to the post edit page, which is where you can update your post. At this point, what you want to do is carefully place an Adsense banner on this post and then save it.
Because these are the most visited posts, the banners have the most chances of being clicked, furthermore, because most people will be arriving at these posts via search engines, your content will be relevant and optimized, therefore allowing for Goole to stream relative Adsense banners, which in turn results in better targeting and more click throughs.
Give it a bash, I can almost gaurentee that you will see a nice increase in your monthly earnings!
